I fought the Law and the law got its butt kicked

280 Here’s a note of victory for us today.  We are massive-muscle-ripped-bicep-bulging-super-heavy-weight-champions in the world.  Jesus Followers are strong!  We may be the meekest-weakest-geekest persons on the earth, but because of Jesus we have the might and sight to fight.  We have overcome the pummelling of the limits of the law of sin that threatened us with a spiritual 10 count:

Romans 7:4-6  So this is the point: The law no longer holds you in is power, because you died to its power when you died with Christ on the cross.  And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead.  As a result, you can produce good fruit, that is, good deeds for God.  When we were controlled by our old nature, our sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced sinful deeds, resulting in death.  But now we have been released from the law, for we died with Christ, and we are no longer captive to its power.  Now we can really serve God, not in the old way by obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way, by the Spirit.

  1. I like how just before this, in Romans 6:14ff, the Apostle reminds us that we are both slave and free at the same time; that we are either a slave to sin and free from God or a slave to God and free from sin as our master.
in essence then, we are never “free” as many wish to think they are. we always obey our master, and our master is either sin or God.
Romans does so well in describing the freedom we have from sin as our master by transfering our slavery to God from sin.
the implications of this are as you described above; that we are now on the team of the Most High who frees us from our old master (sin) and opens up a whole new way of living!
