"The most vivid visual image for most people of Jesus with his disciples is a depiction of the Last Supper.  Artists in every time and place have imagined the scene.  As we look at the pictures, we too are at that table.  We take our places among the original twelve.  We are disciples.  Jesus offers us the bread and the cup.  Jesus invites us to walk in his way.  The communion table is the table of discipleship for all who would follow in Jesus’ steps.  Jesus gives us a solemn and sobering invitation: the call to follow him in life and in death."

from Eleanor Kreider’s book, Communion Shapes Character.
