God means it. He doesn’t want people to perish in darkness. God knows our problem. And the GOOD NEWS is that God is not too weak to save us. Isaiah says in chapter 59, “Listen! The Lord is not too weak to save you, and he is not becoming deaf. He can hear you when you call. But there is a problem. Your sins have cut you off from God.”
Listen, God is not deaf. He can hear the voice of the one who calls out to him from the darkness. Even the muffled cry of the one who calls out in shame and misery from under the covers, God hears. God also sees. He is not blind, even in the dark. He has these amazing night-vision-soul-goggles that enable him to find us and save us no matter where we are and no matter what we’re going through, even when we are hiding in the deepest shadows of evil. God goes to great lengths to seek out and to save those who are lost in darkness. He enters into the darkest regions of this universe and, by the blowing of his Holy Spirit, strikes through the shadow of sin and pierces our lives with his light. He reaches out to us with his radiant brilliance, a glory that not even hell can withstand.
I think everyone on this planet would rather honestly in their soul, see. I just wish that so many people weren’t so prideful. I desire, and God desires even more, that when he shines his light, that we would not squeeze them shut out of shock or resistance, but that we would open our eyes.
