Bono the prophet

This is a clip of Bono’s speech after being given an Image Award by the NAACP in March.  Not only is it remarkable that a very white-skinned Irish rock star is being given an award by the NAACP, but it is astonishing that this pop rock singer has become a prophetic voice to the Church.  Bono is not perfect, he is not an idol of mine, nor is he my role model.  He is not Jesus.  But I would venture to say that he is trying very hard to do what Jesus wants him to do and to be what Jesus wants him to be.  I would guess that he spends time with God… and from that investment God is shaping Bono’s drive to live out Matthew 25 that right way.  (Thanks to Mark Evans for this link!)

  1. Those are fighting words.
But I think this is more radical…
“But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
    -Galatians 6:14
    Fighting words…yep.
I don’t know what the line “through which the world has been crucified to me” means though. Perhaps you do?
