Spending time in God’s desires for us makes a huge difference in how we live. Following God’s words demands action, change, movement. Listening to God’s commands, hearing them in our soul, shapes us decisively. Simply put, dedicating ourselves to God creates a passion within us to be drawn closer and closer to our Creator. We learn to love what God does in our lives. So much so, that we learn to act upon his shaping work within us. Just listen to the action words in this next section of Psalm 119:
- I call.
- I obey.
- I call.
- I keep.
- I rise.
- I hope.
- I meditate.
All of this action stems from a growing love for God as a result of spending time in God’s desires. This section reveals a heart yearning for and learning from God. Be sure not to just read these words… make sure you pray through these, phrase by phrase, making them your own.
145 I call with all my heart; answer me, O LORD,
and I will obey your decrees.
146 I call out to you; save me
and I will keep your statutes.
147 I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I have put my hope in your word.
148 My eyes stay open through the watches of the night,
that I may meditate on your promises.
149 Hear my voice in accordance with your love;
preserve my life, O LORD, according to your laws.
150 Those who devise wicked schemes are near,
but they are far from your law.
151 Yet you are near, O LORD,
and all your commands are true.
152 Long ago I learned from your statutes
that you established them to last forever.
