A new interactive web-based book by David Sawler is hitting the world. I'm very honored to have been asked by David to join a collaborative list of contributors in writing some small articles for this project.
Before You Say Goodbye is a resource that is meant to help youth and young adults stick it out in their church communities… and to help church communities become better at considering how they could effectively pass faith on to the next generations. This is an engaging resource that covers a wide array of issues and questions and advice, filled with QR codes and weblinks and interactive features.
I first interacted with David while pastoring in Calgary. I was working on my dissertation, concerned about the struggle North American churches seemed to be having with empowering the next generations in faith in Jesus. David's book, Goodbye Generation, convicted me and alarmed me… but it also encouraged me. He is one of those rare persons who is making a creative, positive and constructive movement towards helping churches intentionally pass on faith. I quoted David's book in my dissertation and then my church invited David out to speak. I've been impressed with David's heart and vision (not to mention skateboarding/pastoral skills in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia) ever since.
