Background Note: Psalm 136 is most likely a responsive hymn. A soloist would have sung the first line of each verse. The congregation would have sung the 2nd line as a response.

Stating the obvious: What line is repeated over and over?

Go through the first phrase of each verse.  Describe what we should give thanks to the Lord about… and why would that be something to be thankful for:

v.1 _____________________________________

v.2 _____________________________________

v.3 _____________________________________

v.4 _____________________________________

v.5 _____________________________________

v.6 _____________________________________

v.7 _____________________________________

v.8 _____________________________________

v.9 _____________________________________

After reading the first 9 verses, what would you say are the two main points the writer of this psalm wants the congregation to remember?

::::: EQUIPPING CHALLENGE :::::

  1. Stop everything right now and simply give thanks to God. Let your mind consider who God is and what God has done— and give thanks.
  2. In all that you in the next 24 hours, repeat this phrase as a reminder of a very important truth: “His faithful love endures forever”.
  3. Notice the impact this routine has on your heart and mind and strength… and then continue the process.
