Study Guide – Psalm 109:1-5

Psalm109-1-5

O God, whom I praise,
    don’t stand silent and aloof
while the wicked slander me
    and tell lies about me.
They surround me with hateful words
    and fight against me for no reason.
I love them, but they try to destroy me with accusations
    even as I am praying for them!
They repay evil for good,
    and hatred for my love. NLT

This psalm is attributed to David. Describe what he is going through in verses 1-3.

Look closely at verses 4-5. Who are the people that are hurting David?

What is David doing in response to their action?

With all of this in mind, why is verse 1 such a gut-wrenching verse?

::::: APPLICATION CHALLENGE :::::

What do these verses teach us about how to deal in our heart with a situation where people close to us are causing us harm?
