Study Guide – Psalm 85:1-7

Lord, you poured out blessings on your land!
You restored the fortunes of Israel.
You forgave the guilt of your people—
yes, you covered all their sins. Interlude
You held back your fury.
You kept back your blazing anger.

Now restore us again, O God of our salvation.
Put aside your anger against us once more.
Will you be angry with us always?
Will you prolong your wrath to all generations?
Won’t you revive us again,
so your people can rejoice in you?
Show us your unfailing love, O Lord,
and grant us your salvation. NLT

What do the first two verses teach us about the characteristics of the Lord? In other words, what kind of God is the Lord?

In one sentence, what is the writer’s concern in verses 3-7?

What sorts of behavior would cause the Lord to be angry with his people?

Are you surprised that we can talk to God like this even when we have done something to anger him? What do these verses teach us about the characteristics of the Lord?

Take a moment to pray for revival in your heart and in the lives of those around you. Ask God for the blessing of verses 1 and 7.
